Having attended Bible College and Seminary, David's first career was in ministry, helping to plant a church. God, however, had placed a passion and desire for business in his heart, so he pursued training and professional designations in financial planning. Having a shepherd's heart for people, David served his clients with an uncommon zeal and dedication. Following ten years in business, David cultivated an interest in estate and charitable planning, seeing how both God and his client's goals could be served. This eventually led him to attend law school. David graduated law school with honors and an advanced certification in taxation.
David began working in estate and charitable planning, assisting donors and supporters of large, non-profit organizations to structure estate plans and charitable bequests. He served as an Assistant Vice-President at California State University, Long Beach, followed by a period as the Senior Executive Director for Gift Planning with World Vision, and ultimately as the Director of Estate and Gift Planning for Hume Lake Christian Camps. During his thirty-year career as a tax, trust, and estate attorney, he also maintained a private law practice that attracted a substantial number of very high net worth families. His law practice focused on estate planning, charitable planning, and retirement planning.
In 2022, David officially retired and closed his private law practice. Within weeks of retiring, he encountered problems and issues in common with other retirees. He discovered how dramatically unprepared most retirees are for the myriad of non-financial problems and adversities that lead retirees to depression, discouragement, anxiety, loneliness, and disappointment in retirement. David pursued professional training and accreditation to step in and help coach others through this vast new world of retirement.
Since retiring, David has completed the Financial Coach Master Training, the Certificate Program as a Retirement Coach, and the designation as a Certified Professional Retirement Coach. David has also just completed writing "The Guidebook for the Christian Retiree", which serves as the basis of the curriculum for David's Retirement Coaching. Through his coaching, David's goal is to help as many Christian executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals as possible transition into a successful, purposeful, and God honoring retirement.
